There may be a sequel-ish thing to this one, with just Teddy.
WORDS; 1,427. Halloween. It was Teddy's favourite holiday, which was a well-known fact all-around. It wasn't just the fact that it was a day dedicated to dressing up or the free sweets (actually it wasn't, it had startings as a Celtic festival for Samhain, and as All Saints' Day in Christianity), but it was the mysticism that surrounded the day. It was said to be the day that spirits walked the earth, blending in with all the costume-clad people that went around just for the sweets. He didn't know if that was true, but he liked to think that it was. What was special about this Halloween was that it was the first one with Victoire since they'd started dating over a year ago. Which, of course, probably didn't mean much to her, but it was to him. Halloween to Teddy was like Christmas to other people. A day filled of tricks, costumes, sugar, and magic? Could a holiday even be more perfect than that? He didn't think so. Halloween was the crown jewel of holidays. Teddy had asked Victoire to meet him in a park located not far from where he used to live with his grandmother. He'd considered taking her to the cemetery where his parents were buried for the Annual Halloween Visit that Teddy had made for years, but had decided that she probably wouldn't want to go to a cemetery on Halloween night. Most people wouldn't, but it was one of Teddy's traditions to go there once the sun was down and spend the night there. Plus, then he'd be able to see if any stupid kids showed up to do a seance or to vandalize the place. Hearing the sound of a apparation, he turned around to see Victoirangel walking toward him. As, befitting her extremely well, he though, an angel, white dress, halo, and wings all. Teddy smiled cheerfully at her, but then he noted the look on her face, and clicked his tongue. "An angel! That fits you well. I almost wish I'd dressed up as a devil, then we would have looked so badass, people would have been amazed by our awesomeness," he said, toning his voice to avoid any weirdness of sounding like a boy when he was... well. Teddy had decided to dress up as a zombie (way to conquer his fears, clearly), but he found that looking just like a bloody scarred mess wasn't enough for him. It was creative enough for him, and didn't utilize his special talents at all, so he had decided to rectify this problem by changing his appearance into something he should have realized that Victoire would not agree with. Of course, not many people would be all that overjoyed to see a double of themselves, covered in fake blood and scars. After a medium-to-long silence that fell as Victoire just stared at him, and he stood there awkwardly, he finally coughed, and picking up a bag that was at his feet, he said, "Uh, I'm going to go over to that loo over there and change back into a more... me, and then," he smiled brightly, "I have a very special gift for you!" Before Victoire could say anything in response, Teddy stumbled off towards the restrooms located on the otherside of the park. He quickly changed out of the black, torn dress he had been wearing with shorts underneath and girls' longcoat, before returning his appearance to it's natural state. The make-up he had put on that morning remained, and out of the bag he grabbed a pre-bloodied-and-ripped pair of trousers and shirt with a jacket, quickly changing into them. He checked his appearance in the mirror (adding a bit more blood to the shirt, a scar or two here), and then nodded in approval. He looked better as a zombie than Victoire's face and looks had previously. He took two boxes out of the bag, rolling it up and tucking it under his arm as he strode out of the restroom. Teddy dropped the smaller box into his coat pocket, and seeing Victoire nearby, walked holding it out for her to take, grinning. "Now, do I look better?" "Yes," Victoire agreed, and then looked at the box he was holding. He held it out to her, and gestured for her to open it. She took it carefully, and looked at him with suspicion, widening Teddy's grin even more. Gently she opened it, and when it was open she gasped, dropping it to the ground, and Teddy smiled. He pulled back one side of the jacket, gesturing to the dark hole in the shirt by his heart where most of the blood was located. "I had it removed yesterday, for a gift for you, my love. You have my heart, forever and always." Victoire looked at him, her face still in shock, and then turned back to where a red literal, physical heart was sitting in a pool of blood, beating away. It was a long moment of stunned silence while Teddy waited for her to overcome her shock, and eventually she did, and looked at him seriously. "This is a joke, right?" "Which part?" "The part where there's a beating heart in a box!" "Oh, yeah," he leaned down, picking the box up in his hands, looking at it. He dipped a finger in the blood that the heart sat in, and stuck it in his mouth. Sweet and strawberry-flavoured, it certainly tasted good. He mock gasped, and looked at Victoire. "I was tricked! Never trust a mad scientist to do the dirty work, they'll give you a box of gelatin, cream, and strawberries instead of an actual heart." With that, he handed it back to Victoire, who seemed relieved. "So if this isn't your real heart, where is it?" "Probably sitting in that scientist's lab, being poked and prodded." "Which means?" "Which means that I'm just a heartless bastard, and you have a delicious box of awesome that isn't nearly so gruesome as my heart would have been in it." "Ahh," Victoire had the hint of an amused smile on her face now, and Teddy smiled cheerfully at her. "You still have it though, my heart that is. The metaphorical, Valentine version of it. Even if the real, gory one is sitting in a lab before being tossed in a meat grinder to eradicate the evidence, the other one is all yours, my dear angel," he said, tugging gently on a lock of her hair. With that he pulled out the other, smaller box, and handed it to her. She took it, Teddy taking the box of gooey sweetness from her so she could open the other. Victoire opened it slowly, and then gasped (in a good way this time) when she saw what was inside. Teddy grinned, and was surprised when he was jumped with a hug that knocked them both to the ground. The box of strawberry-creamed-gelatin was squished between them, and they both gasped at that. They laid there on the ground for a long moment as they both registered the fact that they were covered in it, cold and gooey on them, and then Teddy grinned, putting his arms around Victoire's waist, and said, "Well, now you can be the angel of srawberry-land!" Victoire half-smiled at him, and took out the silver-chained heart (Valentine-version shaped) with it's twinkling blue jewel in the center that had sat in the little jewelry box. "It's beautiful, where did you get it?" "Where all sparkly things come from; Forks, Washington!" With that useless reference made, he added, "Actually, it's from a jewelery store. One of those fancy ones that tried to laugh me out the door on previous occasions." He helped her clasp it around her neck, and smiled. "How did you afford it?" "Oh, well that's actually what I did with my real heart. Sold it in Knocturn Alley," he said seriously, and Victoire looked at him with a raised eyebrow. "Okay, I probably just won't be eating any chocolate for the next, oh, five years. Or food in general, actually." "You didn't have to, you know." "Yeah I did. It's Halloween!" "People usually don't give gifts on Halloween, Teddy." "I do. It's a very important holiday, and you're a very important person," he reasoned, and then added, "Plus, it's protection! My metaphorical heart protecting you from evil spirits and demons, for I shan't allow such things anywhere near my fair angel." "Is it very good protection?" "Better than a flaming unicorn, angeldust, better than a flaming unicorn." |
